What is AOR Canada (What does it mean?)

AOR (Acknowledgement of Receipt) in Canadian immigration refers to the confirmation letter, IRCC sends after they have received your application for permanent residency. This could be after getting invitation and then after submitting the file to IRCC, and once your file is submitted you will get AOR from IRCC.

When do I get AOR?

You typically receive the Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) shortly after submitting your immigration application online through the Express Entry system or other stream like PNP.

How long does it take to receive an AOR from IRCC?

Usually AOR is given right after you have submitted the profile, however, in some cases it could take few days to few months. Depending on the profile it might take more time.

Does AOR mean approval?

No, an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) does not mean approval. AOR simply acknowledges that your application has been received by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or another relevant immigration authority. It confirms that your application is in the system and that the processing of your application has begun.

Your approval of the application will depend on immigration process and how they determine your profile, AOR has nothing to do with eligibility of your profile.

How long does it take to get AOR for PR?

If you’re applying for PR under Canada Express Entry then it is likely you will get AOR after 1-2 weeks of submitting your application.

How’s AOR for paper-based applications vs electronic applications?

Paper-based applications: AORs are typically received via mail, which can take several weeks due to postal processing times. Applicants will receive a confirmation letter acknowledging that their application has been received by the immigration authority.

Electronic applications: AORs are usually generated automatically upon submission through online platforms like Express Entry. Applicants receive an email or notification confirming that their application has been successfully received by the immigration authority. Processing times for electronic AORs are generally quicker, typically ranging from a few days to a few weeks.
