How to track PR Card Status

Obtaining a Permanent Resident (PR) card is an important step for many newcomers to Canada. Once you’ve applied for a PR card, it’s natural to want to track its status. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you track your PR card:

1. Check Your Application Status Online

This is one of the most common and easiest ways to track your PR card application is through the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) online portal.

Steps:

  • Visit the IRCC Website: Go to the IRCC application status page.
  • Sign In to Your Account: You can sign in using your GCKey. If you don’t have an account, you will need to create one.
  • Access Your Application Status: Once logged in, you will be able to see the status of your PR card application. This portal will provide updates and any necessary actions you need to take. In most cases, you will receive an update of your PR card when you it has reached the immigration office and one when it has been released from the immigration office.

2. Use the Client Application Status (CAS) Tool

Another way how to track PR card status is through the Client Application Status tool.

Steps:

  • Go to the CAS Tool: Visit the Client Application Status page.
  • Select “Check your application status”: Click on the “Check Application Status” tab.
  • Enter Your Details: You will need to provide your application number, last name, date of birth, and country of birth to access your application status.

3. Contact IRCC Directly

If you have trouble finding information online, you can contact IRCC directly. Calling IRCC directly may help you track PR card status.

Steps:

  • Call the IRCC Call Centre: Dial 1-888-242-2100 if you are in Canada. Note that the call centre operates from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time, excluding holidays.
  • Prepare Your Information: Have your application number and other relevant details ready. The representative will ask for these to provide you with the status of your application.

4. Check Your Mail

IRCC sends important updates and correspondence to the mailing address you provided with your application.

Steps:

  • Monitor Your Mail: Regularly check your mailbox for letters from IRCC. They may send requests for additional information or updates on your application status.
  • Update Your Address if Needed: If you move, ensure you update your address with IRCC to avoid missing important documents. This can be done online through your IRCC account.

5. Check Processing Times

Understanding the typical processing times for PR card applications can help manage your expectations.

Steps:

  • Visit the Processing Times Page: Go to the IRCC processing times page.
  • Select PR Card: Choose the PR card option to see current processing times.
  • Note the Estimated Time: This will give you an idea of how long you might have to wait.

6. Check Your Email for Updates

IRCC often sends updates via email, especially if there are actions you need to take.

Steps:

  • Monitor Your Email: Regularly check your email inbox for messages from IRCC. Be sure to check your spam or junk folder as well.
  • Add IRCC to Safe Senders: To ensure you receive all emails, add IRCC’s email addresses to your safe senders list.

Tips for a Smooth Process

  • Ensure Accuracy: Make sure all the information you provide in your application is accurate and complete. Any discrepancies can cause delays.
  • Keep Records: Maintain copies of your application and all correspondence with IRCC.
  • Respond Promptly: If IRCC requests additional information or documentation, respond as quickly as possible to avoid delays.

Conclusion

Above are all the best ways how you can track your Canada PR Card or application status to know where exactly your PR card is reached. You can reach us for any further questions regarding your application or if you have any queries regarding Canadian Immigration.
