What is PPR (Passport Request) in Canada?

PPR also known as (Passport Request) in Canada is a final step in the immigration process where Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) requests applicants to submit their passports for visa stamping. This request verifies that your application has received the final decision and is approved.

Once you have received this request, you must send your passports to a Visa Application Centre (VAC) or IRCC, after that your passport will be stamped with visa you were approved for, this whole process could take 2-3 weeks.

Steps after PPR

The submission process of a Passport Request (PPR) in Canada involves the following steps from passport submission to passport receive:

1. Receive PPR Notification: Applicants receive a PPR Canada or message from IRCC, with required instructions that they need to submit their passports.

2. Prepare Documents: Gather the required documents, which generally include:

  • The original passport(s) for each family member included in the application.
  • Two passport-sized photos for each applicant, meeting IRCC’s specifications.
  • A copy of the PPR letter or email.

3. Submission Instructions: Follow the specific instructions provided in the PPR, which detail where and how to send the passport(s). This could be through:

  • A Visa Application Centre (VAC).
  • Direct submission to an IRCC office.

4. Include Return Envelope: Include a pre-paid return envelope for the passport(s) to be sent back after visa stamping.

5. Submit Passports: Send or deliver the passport(s) and required documents to the specified location.

6. Processing Time: Wait for the processing, which typically takes a 2-3 weeks. IRCC will stamp the visa or permit to the passport(s).

7. Receive Passports: Passports are returned to the applicant using the provided return envelope.
