The Ontario government is making changes to keep students safe and make sure colleges are better.
Jill Dunlop, who’s in charge of colleges and universities, says there are problems with people tricking students who come to Canada. Some lies include promising jobs or citizenship. They’re also having trouble finding places to live.
To fix this, they’re going to:
For Colleges and Universities:
- Check if the programs they offer are good enough and match what jobs are needed in Ontario.
- Make sure students can find a place to live.
- Stop new partnerships between public colleges and private companies for now.
- Make sure students’ surveys about their education get answered.
- Make sure colleges have housing options for new international students.
For Career Colleges:
- Make sure all the colleges are following the rules and are not tricking students.
- Work with the government to stop people who trick students.
Dunlop says they need to work together to stop these bad practices. They also want to make sure students can find homes they can afford. The government will keep talking to colleges and students to make sure things get better
