The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is making big changes to its current International Graduate and International Post-Graduate Streams by replacing them with 3 new streams: the Bachelor’s stream, the Master’s stream, and the Doctorate stream.
These updates are designed to simplify pathways for international students to migrate to British Columbia (B.C.). The changes primarily focus on education, work experience, and language proficiency.
Reason for Updates
The primary reason behind these changes in the new BC PNP streams comes from a desire to safeguard international students from misleading practices while enhancing the overall effectiveness of the program.
By focusing more on skills immigration and strengthening language requirements, the BC PNP aims to ensure a better match between applicants and the labor market needs of the province through international students.
Introduction of 3 New BC PNP Streams
1. Bachelor’s Stream: Primary focused towards recent graduates holding bachelor’s degrees from accredited institutions in BC or outside, this stream requires applicants to have secured an undetermined full-time job offer.
2. Master’s Stream: This stream is for recent master’s graduates across various fields, applicants must have a minimum of one year of full-time work experience in a skilled occupation related to their studies. Stream is much like a OINP Master’s Graduate Stream.
3. Doctorate Stream: Targeting graduates and candidates pursuing doctoral-level programs, this stream allows direct application for both graduates and PhD candidates.
Language Proficiency Requirements Enhanced
The minimum language competency level is set to increase across all BC PNP streams, with the exception of the Health Authority stream, where adjustments have already been made.
You would need a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 8 proficiency to be able to eligible for BC PNP New programs.
When will these streams be implemented?
The three new BC PNP streams replace the international student streams in BC PNP, set to launch in January 2025. Comprehensive criteria will be delineated in the Skills Immigration Program Guide by January 2025.
What will be the impact on students?
This changes will help aim individuals identified by the BC PNP with the necessary information and resources for career success while reducing their vulnerability to misrepresentation within the Canadian immigration system.
